Normally I never read anything about Norway in the international press. Though when I'm in Norway the media present our country as the bellybutton of the world, as the centre of the universe and that we make a HUGE difference to international life and politics. It's highly annoying! Especially when you go abroad and someone asks you if Norway is not the capital of Sweden. Charming. The last couple of weeks I got some news popping up on my RSS feeds from BBC and various other sites and what do I find?? Some person acting not so professionally by calling clients "Brats" and a car driver doing some special joyriding with his girlfriend...
So much for pretending and believing that Norway is known outside it's borders for our continuing mediation in Gaza... Or getting credit for donating billions to save the rainforest in the Amazonas.
Nope. The BBC decides that our international political efforts are insignificat (which they mostly are) but that an experimental sexually motivated car trip is better to write about.
Learn Norway! Learn!

I am sure every country does it to certain extent... Especially the small ones...like the Czech Republic:))
Hi there. First time visitor:
As I am sure you know, newspapers have to sell papers (although, I am not sure this applies to the web). They must think about what is more entertaining to the readers. I get sick of reading about celebrities but I realize that many people love reading that garbage. It's a pity, non!?
Frou Frou - maybe you're right but quite annoying nontheless :)
Angela - Hi! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. For sure there's an entertainment factor but I wish we norwegians, in the national press, didn't appear as the only nation doing anything good, or that we (a nation of 4,5 million people)always takes part in world decisions - because it's simply not true! Norway need to report more on what is happening outside it's boarders even though we actually don't have a part in it.
