I just came home to my little rental flat and noticed that the flat was not the way I left it this morning. Nothing was missing but doors were closed shut and the blinds were down. Hmmm... I suddenly felt the anger rising and I soared out of the door heading down to the landlady.
Yesterday she had asked me if I agreed to let someone look at the flat. I agreed under the condition that I was present, if not, no. A big no, as in not at all. She said she respected that and that she would have felt that way herself.
Obviously not.
The potential new locataires came this afternoon and she let them in without even calling to say so. The very least she could do if she didn't respect my wishes!! According to her there was no point since I wouldn't be able to tidy or be there anyway... My chin dropped to the chest! And I was even more angry with this old wrinkly lady. I told her about respect, or the extreme lack thereof and that she had no right to invade my privacy, what if something got stolen - my jewlery was right there on the table etc etc. In the end she apologized after I kept cutting short her bad excuses and why's it had happened.
Arrrg, I was so angry but at the same time so happy I went down to talk to her otherwise I would have stayed fuming in my flat for the rest of the evening. And as well, I have proved to myself that I can now keep a heated discussion in French!!
The baby agreed with me because he kept kicking my insides as if he wanted to come out and kick landlady's tiny bum! Good boy!

I had a landlady a bit like that. She would just come over unannounced. Umm, I'm taking a shower right now, can you maybe call first next time?
Wow, that's unbelievable that your landlady ignored your request like that. I would be angry, too. Good on you for dealing with her immediately and directly. And really good on you for doing it all in French! That must feel so good to be able to do that. Almost worth the hassle. Almost. :-)
Good for you to make your feeling known to her directly!
Wow, I would have been livid! And congrats on the BOY! :D
E bravo il tuo bambino!!!!bacioni...Cri
yikes - that does not sound fun. Are you guys moving into a bigger place for the baby?
Jen - No, I'm just moving back home after my six month communting. I've been living in a flat in the mountains during the week while working. Luckily our house is big enough for all three of us and the cat :)
Jess - Thanks! We're now in troubles finding a suitable name ;)
Outrageous. I once had a landlord who repeatedly did the same thing.
When he came-in for maybe the 10th time (without even knocking on the door or even saying 'hello' when he stepped inside), I quite loudly pretended to phone the police to report an intruder.
That seemed to work.
Hehe, bravo!
