Star Performance

Being in the sporty mood lately I tried the latest fashion within fitness classes - Zumba. Zumba is a mix of latin dances and aerobics. High tempo and lots of wiggle-wiggle of body parts (it's evident I'm not a natural born dancer, isn't it). As a former football (soccer) player I prefer collective sports activities mainly for two reasons a) It's more fun and b) You don't think about how hard it is and c) it helps the motivation when the teacher is good looking.

I've been looking for classes in my area for ages and now as the last city in France, it's finally available here too! On Saturday mornings... but since the arrival of E, that is no longer be a problem. But I digress.

At 9:30am at the Palais du Sport the whole group was ready and in comes this guy, just muscles and turns on the music. He was witty, quite good looking and the teacher. Off to a good start :)

The room had one wall with mirrors but we were all facing the one without. I was amazed by the teacher's fluid and rapid movements, the quick steps, coordination and the choreography. No doubt that this was not a beginners class and no doubt he was a professional dancer rather than a whatever fitness teacher.

As the class progressed I felt I didn't do so badly. For sure I got my moneys worth as I haven't been so pumped for years. And I even felt I managed to do the smooth dance movements. Woohoo...

BUT THEN, the group turned to face the mirrors on the long wall and suddenly I could compare my moving self to that of the the teacher! And would please someone have mercy on my non-dancer's soul...

The word that comes to mind is : Staccato (which would be describing me!) and which the dictionary define like this: [composed of or characterized by abruptly disconnected elements; disjointed].

What a Star Performance! And what comfort to see that we were a whole class of stiff staccato robots struggling to keep the pace :)

This cracked me up. I could totally see myself doing the exact same thing. In my mind I'm lithe and elegant (and TOTALLY FIT, of course!), but in reality I think I move more like Frankenstein... :-P
